FAQ

Q.
What is KWINDOO?
A.
KWINDOO is a software solution to assist regatta organising, managing and evaluation.

Q.
Is KWINDOO a tracking solution?
A.
KWINDOO is far more than a simple tracker, it is a complete system of workflow management, and furthermore it is a communication tool.

Q.
Why would a communication tool be needed, there are all the traditional methods in sailing, flag signs, VHF, paper notices, all working perfectly.
A.
Mainstream technology is all around us. Nowadays we are used to our smartphones and tablets providing all sorts of information, eg. emails, messages, push notifications, weatherinfo, navigational maps, knowledge base, work and or hobby related applications, the list is endless.
KWINDOO offers the possibility to hook the racer directly up with the actual regatta he or she is participating to get all information from the race office instantly.

Q.
Still not sure, isn't a tracker enough?
A.
Take a GPS tracker in your hand and take your smartphone in the other. Think what can you do with either. That is the difference. Technology without real interaction is absolutely useless. In KWINDOO, you have real and constant interaction.

Q.
Is there a safety feature for the racer?
A.
The racer is provided with a one button call feature that is directly linked with the organiser's dedicated number for emergency cases.
The number is pre-set by the organiser, so it is a smooth call, literally. Also, when making an emergency call the GPS position of the caller is logged by the system, should further rescue steps be taken.

Q.
How does the GPS function work?
A.
The racers have a freely downloadable iOS / Android application. Once they join a race and it is started the built in GPS of the phone is in charge of this.

Q.
Are there any other communication features?
A.
The organiser can send a so called Active Race Information Message - ARIM-  to all the racers, or boat classes with instructions.
ARIM messages are a great new feature not seen before in sailing.

Q.
Are there advertisements in the system?
A.
Advertisement features are mainly built around the website for the viewers and fans, who can follow the races in real time, or replay.
The exception is the sponsored ARIM, which may contain useful information about discounts and other opportunities, useful for the active sailor.

Q.
Smartphone users know from experience that if GPS is activated the phone runs flat in power in a few hours.
A.
Yes, smartphone users know this from experience, and are typically well prepared with power cords to 12V and extra batteries.
But these are available in KWINDOO web-shop, and in some cases may be provided by the organiser.
In fact, pricing of KWINDOO,- not the basic fee, may include these items.

Q.
How about water, it is not a friend of smart devices.
A.
As in the case of cables and batteries, these are available in the web-shop, and in some instances may be included in the pack that
the organiser paid for.

Q.
Is KWINDOO a countdown timer, should be not a big deal for a smart device.
A.
In fact, KWINDOO shows countdown time to your next race, and also to the actual start time, as set by the organiser.

Q.
Is KWINDOO for the race administrator or the racer?
A.
KWINDOO serves all parties involved: the organiser gets a complete workflow management system and a communication tool
the racers get instant information from the race admin, plus safety features and a navigational aid. Viewers can follow their favourite team live on the website.
